Never mind the Rugby World Cup, fans have to start making their plans already for the 2008 Six Nations Championships. This annual Six Nations tournament involving matches between England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and Italy will run from Saturday 2nd February 2008 until Saturday 15th March 2008.
Ireland, who almost won the Six Nations 2007 but were edged into 2nd place by France in the last minute of the last game, kick off the tournament at 2pm with a home game against Italy, who finished 4th in Six Nations 2007. Later the same day England, a disappointing 3rd last time out, are home to Wales, who finished 5th.
In Six Nations 2008 Ireland, Wales and France all have three home games, giving the teams a slight edge, while England, Scotland and Italy all face three away games and two at home.
England's home games for Six Nations 2008 take place at Twickenham, Wales play at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, Scotland at Murrayfield, France at the Stade de France and Italy at the Stadio Flaminio. Rugby fans visiting Ireland should note that in Six Nations 2008 Ireland's home games will not take place at Lansdowne Road, which is in the south of Dublin and still undergoing work, but will again take place at Croke Park in the north of the city. Bear this in mind when making travel plans or if booking hotel accommodation for an overnight stay for the Six Nations in 2008.

Ireland's traditional home for rugby, Lansdowne Road, is undergoing a complete transformation into a 50,000-seater stadium for rugby and football and will be closed during Six Nations 2008. Irish fans will miss the old stadium, as the national teams bowed out in style with a 5-0 win in the final football international against San Marino on 15th November 2006, and a 61-17 victory for the rugby team against the Pacific Islanders in the final rugby international there on 26th November 2006. In Six Nations 2007, Ireland beat England handsomely and lost to France narrowly in their two games at Croke Park. The new Lansdowne Road stadium is scheduled to be open in 2009 and meanwhile Croke Park will again be used for Six Nations 2008.
